Showers are usually given four to six weeks before the baby's due date. Showers can also be held within the first few weeks after the birth. In fact, some expectant couples prefer to delay receiving gifts until after the baby's birth. Invitations are generally sent out three weeks before the shower. Essentials for the invitation include the mother's (or parents') name(s), the shower date and time, the host's name, and a request to RSVP. Some shower hosts include gift ideas or registry information in or on their invitations. Others prefer to omit information about gifts but have suggestions ready if guests ask. Either way is fine.
