Who Should Host? Traditionally, close friends cousins, aunts, sisters-in-law, or coworkers of the mother-to-be host baby showers. Hosting by a member of the honoree's immediate family used to be considered self-serving - and thus, taboo - because gifts are central to showers. But times - and logistics - have changed, and today it's appropriate for anyone to host a baby shower as long as there's a legitimate reason for anyone, including immediate family members, to do the honors.
